Comments: Two older cowboys spend a hard winter on the range. When they return into town, they learn that Eastern accountants have purchased all the open land because the winter killed the will of the ranchers. The open range is no more. The Eastern firm Consolidated keeps only a small herd of cattle whilst they figure out what to do. This film follows the misery of the cowboys caused by high unemployment, and the beginning of the end of the Old West. Some respond favorably, others turn to crime.

This film is a bit depressing, but that makes sense considering the subject. It's enjoyable to see how the main characters change with the times. Mama Cass sings theme song. The film is based on a novel.
