Title (Year): Ender's Game (2013)Age: 11 yearsGRS Rating: 5 of 5Notable Cast: Asa ButterfieldDuration: 1 hr, 54 minInfractions: None.Comments: Fifty years ago an alien race came to Earth and was narrowly defeated. The International Fleet has been preparing for a subsequent war ever since. They found that children made the best leaders because of their quickness to learn and adapt. This film centers around one youngster, the third-born--appropriately nicknamed Ender--as he is prepared to attack the enemy.
This is a very good film. The message is clear, though not clear cut. It also confronts the ethics of children in combat. Highly recommended.
I read the book afterwards. Here are my comments. The film follows the novel well, if in a simplified manner. The ending is tailored to garner the contemporary audience's approval. I would have preferred the novel's ending, since it is more powerful. Well done, though!Want more? Switch to desktop version
