Comments: Lieutenant Tom Hudner has transferred from Pearl Harbor to Rhode Island. His squadron is just issued Corsair airplanes. This aircraft is commonly referred to as the "widow maker" and is unknown to the pilots. Then, the squadron is told that they will ship out on the U.S.S. Leyte, an aircraft carrier. Jesse, the only black pilot in the squadron, is concerned about safely landing a Corsair on the carrier. Jesse has some personal demons.

This film would be better without the incredible level of racism. Individuals like the main character who keep a journal of all the times someone has wronged them are only poisoning their souls! Also, this film is too long. It is based on a novel about the real individuals who flew during the Korean War. It does end well, though.
