Comments: A young, Prussian princess is selected to marry the Grand Duke of Russia. Sophia Frederica, now Catherine, is disappointed with her bridegroom. He's a half-wit! She sees her new people as barbarians. Then, she learns how to get what she wants: advance herself to the throne to become Catherine II.

This film is based on the diary of the empress. Despite being a bit little silly at parts, it's entertaining and quite possible historically accurate.
