Comments: The film opens with a young woman, Tanja, being brutally murdered by someone she knows. The killer then methodically cleans the body of any DNA. A brusque policeman, Jonas, and his partner, Erik, who fly in from Oslo, are sent to investigate. When Jonas accidentally shoots Erik and hides the dropped pistol of the murderer, the audience questions the morality of the policeman. Jonas is also suffering from insomnia in the perpetual daylight of a far-north summer.

This Norwegian film is a little dated; however, it's good to see the late '90s again. The main character is so well developed that he takes center stage. There are many great shots of northern Norway. This film was redone by American Christopher Nolan in 2002.
