Comments: James is a recovering heroin user. He's homeless and sings in Covent Garden. His mother lives in Australia and his father, depsite also living in London, doesn't want anything to do with James. When James overdoses and his case worker meets him at the hospital, she realizes just how close to death he is. She, also, sees James' strong desire to kick the habit so she arranges a subsidized apartment for him. That's when a stray cat wanders into his life. Will the cat bankrupt him or bring him back to life?

This shocking story is based on a real, living man and his feline friend. In fact, the actual cat starred in some of the scenes in the film! The animal is a notable actor. As only the British seem able to do, you can feel the desperation of the main character as he battles the "girl with the golden eyes". It makes for a heartfelt movie. However, unlike American works of the same type, this one is not for the faint of heart or children. It is based on the autobiography of the same name. Recommended.
