Comments: Pete "Maverick" Mitchell has retired from teaching at the Navy Fighter Weapons School AKA "Top Gun". Now, he is the test pilot for an experimental, hypersonic jet from Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works. Despite being significantly older, Maverick still defies authority. His defiance and raw skill lands him a job teaching a new crop of hot shots to undertake a special mission. This mission is exceptionally dangerous. Can Maverick ready the young pilots for the mission, which may result in the death of all the pilots?

This sequel begins by following the same formula as Top Gun. Even the introduction of the film is nearly identical. It's not until about midway that the film begins to strike out on its own. It's a clever mechanism that pays homage to the very popular original film and introduces a new generation. I was pleasantly impressed by this film. The aerial sequences are fantastic, displaying manuevers that the audience hasn't seen. I would have been happier without the dramatic interpersonnal scenes. Though, I know that such seemingly trite conversations are commonplace; and, as such I understand the need for them. Jennifer Connelly looks fantastic! Recommended if you enjoy the original film.
