Comments: Grimley coal mine looks to be next one forced closed by the Tory government. This closure would leave the miners and their families jobless and be a major blow to the industry of Yorkshire. The colliery's brass band looks doomed to disband first; however, the conductor is determined that the band wins a competition to perform in London. A local woman returns and joins the band.

The band performances by the actors are faked, of course. Some parts are not easy to watch. The movie hints at the dire situation endured by the soon-to-be unemployed miners.
