Comments: Howard Beale, a UBS newsreader in New York City, used to be popular. As his ratings slide, he starts to drink and is given two-weeks' notice of his dismissal. He tells his audience that he's going to shoot himself on next week's show. The station tries to remove him from the studio, which is broadcast live! He's allowed to explain himself in the next show where he says "I've run out of bullshit". The angry man is very popular, and the network sees a gold mine!

This dark comedy probably pushed decency in the mid '70s. Today, it is still important. I found the scene of negotiating a TV contract with the Communist Party of America especially ironic.
