Comments: In Belorussia 1943, two boys are digging up Nazi equipment in the sand. One finds a rifle and is infatuated. Flyora decides to join a partisan force to repulse the Nazi invaders. His mother is not happy. Left behind to maintain a base camp, he befriends Glasha. Then, they are bombed and paratroopers appear! They head for his home, only to learn the hard truth of war.

The Soviet soldiers had to grow up quickly. The film presents the true horror of the Soviet people during World War II. Many forget that Russians were executed in Nazi concentration camps. Still, the wacky Russian sense of humor, which only seems to appear in the worst situations, almost makes up for it. The filming of this movie is distinctive and powerful. Perhaps it is an homage for the 628 Belorussian's villages that were burned? Powerful film.
