Comments: In 1871, Captain--late of the Confederate Army--Kidd travels and reads the news in small towns across the Texan plains. He also helps to calm hatred against the occupying Federal soldiers. One day, he comes across an overturned wagon, a murdered black man, and a white girl who had been captured and raised by the Kiowa. The child was being transported to the Indian Reservation (i.e. Oklahoma). It's now his responsibility to deliver her to her relatives. Meanwhile, Texas still hasn't rejoined with the Union, and tensions are high.

Like all excellent Westerns, this film is a mix of action, compassion, and villains set in open country and in small towns. The two characters are well developed. I loved the broad shots of scenes and the survivalism. This excellent film is based on a novel. Recommended!
