Comments: Three soldiers meet on their way back home after fighting in World War II. An air force captain, an army sergeant, and a naval seaman, who served on an aircraft carrier, round out their number. They form a bond, during their lengthy journey home, established through similar experiences. Their small town, Boone City, doesn't seem to have changed that much. Have they changed a lot? Can they re-adjust to civilian life?

This film may be one of the first to address what is now known as Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. Times are not easy for the three main characters, but they get on. I feel that this film was ahead of its time, or maybe life hasn't changed that much? Regardless, the filming is excellent. The focus is always just right. I enjoyed the footage of late '40s small-town America! There are small things in this film that are very funny. There's a real comedic undertone! The film is based on a novel, and not a minute is wasted: it's worthy of nearly three hours, just remember that there are three stories to be told. Recommended.
