Title (Year): Plague (1978) Age: 46 yearsGRS Rating: 5 of 5
Infractions: None. Comments: A small group of scientists are trying to create a bacteria that can enhance plant growth. They're modifying the DNA. The final goal is to engineer a similar one to help humans. One researcher, who has a vested interest in the form of a prostestic leg, sees political roadblocks forming and pushes the research forward without permission. She unleashes a bacteria that boosts plant growth, but kills mammals. Mistakes allow this contagion to spread to the outside world, becoming a plague. This film's idea isn't new; however, the execution isn't too bad. The method of decontamination is laughable: carbon-dioxide powder fire extinguishers won't sanitize surfaces! A better example is Andromeda Strain. There are good Air Force clips of jet fighters. This epidemic film is available, free of charge, on YouTube. |
