Comments: It's the year 2000, and the Russian navy is resuming its "annual" war games, after many years. One of their important submarines, an Oscar class, is issued an aging practice torpedo. As its internal temperature rises, worry grows amongst the torpedo crew. Then, the worst happens: it explodes, incincerating the forward torpedo compartment. The explosions send the submarine to the bottom. The few remaining crew fight for life in the after section. They hope for rescue.

I remember reading about this disaster. It's one of many that ripple Soviet & Russian naval history. Like K-19: The Widowmaker, this film is not a happy one. The outcome of the Kursk disaster is recorded. Luc Besson merely brings to life the men involved, and does so admirably. The film focuses on the wives of the trapped men. The cause of the disaster is the typical product of Soviet socialism. It seems, sadly, preventable. This film is based on a novel.
