Comments: Three individuals join forces to uncover the identity of a killer who mutilates boy prostitutes. Not a happy subject, and the show has an eerie quality; however, this TNT program provides a glimpse into early psychoanalysis, police brutality, and Victorian New York City. Also, the story includes the first woman employed by the New York Police Department, who's not a cleaner. In real life, she was a detective, possibly emerging from a secretarial position. This gruesome program is based on a novel. The style matures into that seen in Deadwood.

What I really enjoy about this program is the glimpse of late 19th New York City. No skyscrapers, no auto traffic jams, only people behaving in their own way. The computer-generated images support this ideal. So, if you can ignore the gore and guts, then enjoy this look into our past.
