Comments: Donald Crowhurst, an amateur inventor of sailing apparatus, decides to enter a competition to sail around the world, solo. It's 1969, and this feat has not yet been accomplished. Mr Crowhurst designs his sailboat and fits it with electronics from his company, with the intention of promoting his products. In fact, he promises his house and business to finance the trip. He sets out the last possible day, due to delays, and struggles with the boat, the personal isolation, and his lack of sailing experience. That's when he decides to cheat by giving false reports of progress whilst sailing around the central Atlantic. But can he live with himself?

I don't usually respect cheaters. But, through this film, I can appreciate why this man made his decision. I can't imagine sailing around the world by myself, and I understand why he made the false reports. As you have figured out, this film is based on a true story.

Meanwhile, men first landed on the moon during the course of this film. Perhaps this helps to explain why Crowhurst may have cheated. Times were changing. It's probably something that cannot be understood without living through it. Regardless, this film is worth watching, if to witness strong individuals realizing their mistakes.
