Comments: In 1868 Texas,--really Monument Valley--Ethan returns three years after the Confederacy loses the war. He's staying with his married brother and his children. Ethan doesn't disguise his hatred of Comanches when he finds a part-blood is living with them. When the Rangers ask for his help to find some cattle rustlers, they find it's a trap to attack the family back home. Ethan, indeed, finds the males of his brother's family are killed and the young woman and girl are kidnapped. He sets out along the Comanche tracks with a vengeance.

This John Ford film is excellent, of course. It's also steeped in the time period. That is, when Indians were almost always the enemy and white people were almost always the friend. The movie is beautifully filmed with wide shots of a picturesque area. It's one of the stronger Westerns. If you like John Wayne and are looking to begin enjoying this genre, this is the film for you!
