Comments: An officer, known to hate Nazis, is assigned the task of overseeing German men remove land mines from a beach in his homeland, Denmark. The war has ended. His "men" turn out to be boys, which disgusts him even more. How will he accomplish his assignment with children? As the task is slowly accomplished, he grows to respect and, even, love his prisoners. That is until something devastating occurs. Will it shake his admiration?

This film dramatizes actual events: "2,000 German POWs were forced to remove over 1.5 million landmines from the west coast of Denmark." I never knew this episode happened. Also, I like how the film, despite being set in Denmark, is largely spoken in German. I doubt that the terrible conditions endured by the young men in this film are much exaggerated. The entire group of young actors performed admirably, too! In real life, the officers were German not Danish. This is a powerful film!
