Comments: Before the American marines turned the tide in the Pacific, Singapore fell. The British soldiers captured, there, were viewed as cowards by the Japanese army. Subsequently, they were abused. A few decades later, one British officer is still having trouble coping. He comforts himself by studying the British rail tables. During one train journey, he meets a woman with whom he falls in love. She's determined to bring to light the horrors that he faced, so she can release him from the flashback miseries. Can he be mended?

This film is based on the autobiography of the officer, Eric Lomax. It's beautifully shot and acted. The trivialism behind war is made obvious, as is the honor and fortitude. Recommended.
