Comments: Without warning, some sort of energy field surrounds a lighthouse. The field slowly expands. The Shimmer, labeled for its characteristic appearance, becomes the focus of the military. When they fail to make progress, a psychologist assembles a group of intellectuals. These women enter The Shimmer with the goal of reaching the lighthouse and returning with a reason for The Shimmer. Their number is joined, at the last minute, by a would-be widow whose husband has returned after an absence of one year in The Shimmer.

This film is based on a novel. It also bears a strong similarity to eXistenZ, which is based on a Philip Dick story. The scenery looks like it was shot in Florida. The author claims to have come up with the idea whilst walking in the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge in the Florida panhandle. The story is good. Some of the scenes are terrifying. Well done.
