Comments: In 2044, the world is a place of haves and have-nots. Most people live only to enter the OASIS. This computer-simulated universe offers almost everything to users, as long as they have the coin. Wade Watts is an unknown teenager living in the ghetto, known as the Stacks. But, in the OASIS, he's known as Parzival. And he's about to change the OASIS forever.

I read this 2011 novel by Ernest Cline. The book is very good, if a bit too nerdy. The story does a great job capturing growing up in the '80s. The film is no different, because there are subtle reminders everywhere. The screen writers simplified the novel's plot and dumped the really geeky stuff. Also, the scope of the cultural details has grown beyond just the '80s, acquiring '70s influences. That's a wise move, and makes this film a classic that may be able to join the John Hughes films, which so succinctly define a generation. Well done, Spielberg. The soundtrack is excellent, too. Recommended.
