Comments: This film opens with a young girl strapping herself into a wheelchair, inside a locked, dungeon cell. She's readying herself for "transit" to the classroom, which is also underground. There, she learns all sorts of normal things, and she demonstrates her unequaled intelligence. The trouble is that her proud teacher is prone to get a bit too close. The result of contact is demonstrated by a soldier. Fortunately, all is OK until their military base is breached, and the safety controls disappear.

How is it that only the British can make truly terrifying zombie films? Like 28 Days Later, the beginning of this film is absolutely scary! After that, it is beautifully filmed, showing a world a decade after a post-apocalyptic event. There was less need for computer graphics. (British Leyland set the stage for the abandoned auto factory scenes.)

The zombie outbreak was caused by a fungal infection gone rampant. I like how they explained why things happened. Poor Gemma looks like a zombie after the first few scenes. I enjoyed this film a lot! It was adapted from a novel.
