Comments: A Democratic congressman from Texas, who is no stranger to women and booze, recognizes the plights of the Afghans during the Soviet invasion and uses his easy-going nature and connections to supply the Afghan freedom fighters with weapons to oust the Soviets from their land.

This film is wonderful! The dark jokes and subtle suggestions make this peculiar politician (Charlie Wilson) real to me. The hypocrisy of DC politicians is obvious. Imagine appointing a womanizing and recreational-drug-using politician to the ethics committee. WTF?! That is the bullshit that seems to go on in Washington. It's no wonder we can't house and clothe the "undesirables" in our free nation.

This movie also confronts religion in a very realistic manner. Imagine an American who can get Muslims and Jews to work together? I highly recommend this film. Not only is there some nudity to keep you interested, but three Americans stand up against invaders and the oppression and destruction of a less able people. Wonderful!
