Comments: A novelist meets a lovely woman on a train in New Mexico. She stares at him, which encourages him to strike up a conversation. They both alight at the same stop. He meets her adopted family, and she tells them that they are engaged to marry. With his head still spinning, they visit his recovering brother in Georgia, as a married couple. The audience begins to understand the thoughts and needs of this new wife. Will her husband realize what is going on? Or will something terrible befall him or his relations?

I think this film established Gene Tierney not only as a beauty, but as a skillful actress. She received an award for her performance in this movie. As a modern viewer, who assumes the worst to happen, I found myself expecting more than what actually happens. However, considering that this production was released just after World War II, the story would have shocked much of the audience. And it's in TECHNICOLOR! The movie is based on a novel. Recommended.
