Comments: A virus is killing all grass-like plants (e.g. wheat & rice) in China. The disease spreads across Asia and into Africa. The Western World assumes that they are immune. Then, rationing begins in England. An architect is alerted by a friendly man working for a research lab that a travel ban will begin soon. The idea is to reduce the population of Britain by using nerve gas on the inhabitants in the cities. Can the architect, his family, and the man escape to the North, where the architect's brother lives in a secluded valley?

The anti-capitalistic message bugged me; however, one must understand it, given the time period. I have listened to the '50s BBC radio program, which is based on the the same novel, because it focuses on the Chung-Li Virus and the characters. This film is mostly good but presents examples of pollution and the contrast between the suffering and the affluent. Those, I feel, take away from the movie. Still, I will cautiously recommend this apocalyptic film. Lynne Frederick makes her film debut, and she's stunning!
