Title (Year): Somewhere in Time (1980)
GRS Rating: 5 of 5
Notable Cast: Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour
Duration: 1 hr, 43 min
Comments: A man has just successfully presented his first play. At the after-party, an elderly woman walks right up to him and says "come back to me" before handing him an old pocketwatch. Eight years elapse and, coping with writer's block, the playwright decides to stay overnight at The Grand Hotel. There, he is strongly attracted to a photograph of a woman taken in 1912. As he delves deeper into her past, he finds that he becomes increasingly attracted to her.
This time travel film is unique because it focuses on the effects on the individuals, rather than the mechanism of travel. I hadn't seen this film for decades. It's even better than I remember. Or perhaps I've just grown into a hopeless romantic? Jane Seymour looks amazing, too. Based on a novel. Recommended!
