Comments: A boyfriend hires a black, Southern chef to take care of his discarded girlfriend and her (and his) daughter. The mother has cancer and is supposed to die in six months. The chef, Mr. Church, is told to take care of the two for the remaining six months and he'll be given a lifetime salary. Unexpectedly, the mother lives much longer and Mr. Church enjoys his new job.

This film sounds a bit boring. I can assure you it isn't. All the characters are deep and enjoyable. The plot moves through the girl's childhood into her adult life. This powerful story was inspired by actual events. I didn't realize Eddie Murphy could act! Highly recommended!
