Comments: Los Angeles has experienced "the big one" and is now an island. A presidential candidate declares it's payback for the corrupt and warped lifestyles, à la Sodom and Gomorrah. He is elected into office, and promptly has the Constitution amended so he can reign for life.

The daughter of the President takes the "black box", which can wipe out the electronics in most of the world's cities. She takes it to a Ché look alike who rules L.A. Only now the island is a prison colony for prostitutes, runaways, and other "wrong doers". Snake Plissken is forced to rescue the "black box" when he's injected with a deadly virus that will kill him in ten hours.

What a riot! John Carpenter isn't my first choice for action entertainment, but like in They Live, he serves up a great movie with a piercing message. The reality of the apocalyptic world is impressive. It's plausible and "lived-in". What really shines is the acting. It's obvious that they are having so much fun. For example, Kurt Russell channels Clint Eastwood. Recommended.
