Comments: Hitchcock delivers a story about a brutal London serial rapist & strangler. Normally, I can't stand rape scenes and turn off movies containing them. Hitchcock did an excellent job portraying this brutal act that leaves the audience stunned and horrified, but not disgusted by a violent and graphic event. The scene gives the villain depth, in a way which only Hitchcock seems able to do. It is still powerful to this day.
The fact that the audience knows who the strangler is, and must tolerate a falsely-accused man, makes the climax even more powerful.
