Comments: This documentary describes Horatio Nelson Jackson's drive from San Francisco to New York City in 1903. What inspired him to buy a Winton motorcar, hire a co-driver, and set out East? During a stopover in Frisco, this Vermont businessman made a $50 wager that he could drive across the country in a car. I believe he was generally not taken seriously. Perhaps they passed it off as "crazy Vermonter"? Needless to say, he did it. Ken Burns does a great job, as always, bringing his journey to the screen.
