Comments: The War Between the States is all but finished for the Confederacy. A desperate band of Southerners conspire to take out the major leaders of the Union. This film follows the trial of Mary Surratt, who's named the mother of an accused conspirator. One courageous--and proven Union captain--takes the responsibility to defend her in a military tribunal.

I really enjoyed this film. Redford does an excellent job bringing out the cause of the Southern side. He delicately sidesteps the slavery issue and promotes the actual reason for the Civil War. Also, this movie presents the heart of politics: the victor writes the rules. Bravo!
