Comments: I went into this film expecting nothing. I remembered Casino Royale, during which I was very disappointed. This movie is better. Perhaps the past few movies (Casino Royale and Die Another Day) could be deemed part of a metamorphosis or cycle? The Bond that we knew (and admired) died; but was luckily reborn and has grown into a slightly different creature?

This movie supports this concept because the car chases are back, there's no torture scene (thank you!), and Bond is mostly back to being calm and collected. Furthermore, women sadly fall at his feet again (like in Goldfinger). This flick seems to draw heavily on Licence to Kill. I liked Timothy Dalton as Bond because I thought he had a good idea for Bond. Licence to Kill isn't a bad film either. I hope that Daniel Craig can fully morph into his own Bond without being too obnoxious or violent. I have every hope because in this movie the writers seemed to be resuming the subtle humor and question the American way of doing things.

I do have some doubts. Bond is not Bourne. Furthermore, Bond has nothing to fear from Vin Diesel (in xXx, Pitch Black). Jason Statham is about the only competition but the characters are so different despite both being British.

Bond may not be exactly as we remembered, however, he is back and seems poised to guide men through the next millenium. This is refreshing.

Also, the subtle political themes are being resumed. In this flick they address the corruption of corporations pursuing "green" energy. This movie addresses a very real fear among the people concerning the unquestioned demand for renewable energy. The electric cars is an interesting touch. Bravo.
