Comments: I've always enjoyed the power of Beethoven. In everyday life he may have been an abusive bastard but his symphonies and concertos evoke lots of emotion in me. Mozart is wonderful and playful, but he lacks the power and presence of Beethoven. Whether Beethoven was manic-depressive or just an angry individual, he is most definitely one of the greatest composers of the Classical and Romantic eras.

This movie captures the transition period in Beethoven's life that helped bring the world from the powerful and triumphant Classical time into the softly-spoken and complicated Romantic period. The climatic Ninth Symphony is used as a "jumping off point" and Beethoven is influenced by a fresh, and beautiful, woman to more fully understand his gift. This is how the movie explains Beethoven's transition from the stately and proper Classical to the complex and growing Romantic style of writing.

Ed Harris does a wonderful job portraying the great composer. Though some may not agree with me, I feel that Harris captured the essence of the master, at least, what I feel from Beethoven's music. Diane Kruger does a bang-up job, which isn't bad for a fashion-model-turned-actress. And she's not bad to look at either!
