Comments: This movie seems to capture the very being of two types of people. There's the plainly dysfunctional southwestern family who despite death and car trouble will do their damnedest to see their youngest member perform in a beauty competition in Redondo Beach. Then, there's the prudish and superficial Californians who will not be bettered by anyone, even if it means calling in the police over a technicality!

I loved this film because, not only did it salute the hardworking people in this country, but it bashed the know-it-all, stuck-up Californians who seem to always get their way!

This kind of movie is always refreshing because I tire of southern Californians who try to make life a perfection, where the grass is always green and cars always run perfectly. We need our little disasters and we need our deaths to make the sun shine. And when it shines because of these reasons we know that it's true, and not the fake, superfluous sunshine that is so ubitiquous in southern California. Thank you for a real film.
