Comments: This movie reflects the current trend in today's cinema: explain the origins of a well-known character. This brings to mind a question--is society so jaded (seen it all, done it all) that filmmakers now feel they can successfully make these typically unrefined types of movies? This movie forces people to 'feel' by belaboring and harping on the relevant scene. That seems to support the fact that society on a whole is unfeeling, or at least scared to show any emotion.

This movie completes the transition that Die Another Day began. Gone are the dancing women in the credits and missing are the double entrendres and sexual innuendoes. The replacements, which ought to make the feminists happy, are violence and grit. It's ironic but a characteristically male series of movies that were previously redeemed by the tenderness of women has shifted into an aggressive show-off. Not unlike modern politics, or hell, many men these days: Casino Royale's Bond is overbearing and has something to prove to the world.

Daniel Craig does a good job and I cannot fault him. This movie's problems lie with the writer, director, and producers. I like watching movies to be entertained and this one is just so different than other 007 movies that I just wasn't ready for it. I expected subtle humor, fight scenes, a car chase, uncomplicated women, and the renown 007 cool. Maybe next movie will meet my expectations? One thing is for certain I'm not going to the theater to see the next one.
