Comments: I didn't see this movie in the theater because I was angry with the advertisements. One trailer opened with Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" and then blew up the Earth. This is the exact opposite of what the great trumpeter/singer intended. So I boycotted this Spielberg movie. Once on DVD I figured that I wouldn't be "buying into" it as much.

I'm very impressed with this movie. The plot follows the novel well. This movie means more to me than the original movie because it's designed for my generation. The acting is very good. And the aliens are terrifying. I can see this happening! The movie is rough and could be hard to take so be ready for that. The final scene with a destroyed Boston bothers me because I like this old city. I am impressed that the new bridge (Zakim-Bunker Hill) into the city survived. I didn't see the Prudential Center or the Hancock Building.

This movie works on several levels. Not only is a man and his children threatened by a powerful enemy, but there are also a man vs. man and a man vs. time conflicts. Of course, modern life plays into the plot but it's not obtrusive.
