Comments: Fun action movie, no doubt about it. But I have complaints against it, as I have read the Clive Cussler story. First, and most annoying, Al Giordino is a short, burly Italian!!!! Steve Zahn is an excellent comedian and I enjoy his work but he is neither Italian nor burly. Giordino is clearly described by Cussler as being "barrel-chested" and coming up to the shoulder of 6-foot tall Dirk Pitt. Matthew McConaughey as Dirk Pitt was the best of the main characters. Admiral Sandecker is a red-haired Irishman who's also a health nut. I'm sorry but William Macy just doesn't fill the bill. Furthermore, Sandecker does not compromise and, surely, doesn't let the "big wigs" in Washington influence him. Sandecker, also, respects Pitt and Giordino and wouldn't treat the way Macy's character does in this film. Next, Rudy Gunn may be a scientist but he would never say that he was hoping to "score a chick" in Australia. While humorous, I recall Rudy Gunn being a family man in Cussler's books!

Overall the movie is fun. I will not run out to see it again because it was too goofy. Being a movie certain key points were left out and some garbage was put in instead. I did appreciate the classic rock soundtrack! Pitt and Giordino aren't heavy drinkers but being an avid beer-drinker I liked seeing them with pints in their hands.

Verdict: worth a viewing but like Cussler's books don't look for accuracy whether historical or literary.
