Comments:

THIS FILM IS NOT BOND

In this movie during the famous opening title in which Bond kills the sniper hunting him, we see 007's bullet travel up the bad guy's rifle barrel. I was willing to overlook this and had high hopes through the entire first scene. Usually, this first scene is my favorite scene of the entire movie, especially, the first scenes of The World is Not Enough. However at the end of the first scene in Die Another Day, Bond is captured and the credits are centered around his torture, no number of dancing women can overcome this blow. James Bond is idolized by men because he is cavalier, cool, and essentially invincible. This means he may never be tortured!

Like a lot of recent films, this one rips off the Matrix filming style with the swooshing, slow motion, and bullet time effects.

Also, things that we've never seen before like seeing Bond place the gun under his pillow and the extended love scene were bad breaks from the 007 tradition. Furthermore, tricking the audience into thinking that Moneypenny was dead and later that she was finally 'getting to know' Bond were cheap shots. This film was not ground-breaking but tradition-breaking. It really should have been named Jinx, Bond's Bodyguard because Halle Berry's character did most of the actual spy work while Bond was sampling the scenery.

On a positive note, thank you MGM for not selling out to German car companies and returning Bond to Aston Martin.
